Brass Wing Arm Cuff Bracelets for Erykah Badu.

Badu Rocking her Brass Wing Cuffs during a performance on 8/15/10.

Each feather detail were individually cut, filed, soldered and polished.

Then the three rows soldered together to complete the 9' in length cuffs.

Extremely malleable...the bottom half of the wings can adjust.

The hand brushed antique finish is stunning.

A safe home for storage and travel...fit for a Golden Goddess!

I was honored to contribute my skills to design a

Custom Shell Lei Inspired Necklace for the

New Chelsea Store Grand Opening on April 16, 2010.

I designed and crafted this custom shell necklace for the entry form.

The necklace was inspired by an Hawaiian Lei, instead of flowers

I used ivory cotton twine, found broken vintage ceramic plates

imported from Europe, varied sea shells and natural coral.

The skirt was crafted by Designer Wren Britton

out of hand rolled and dyed paper.

On February 11, 2010 We lost a fashion legend,

Lee McQueen of the Alexander McQueen fashion house.

At 40 years old he accomplished what many in the fashion industry

would dream to do in 100 lifetimes. He was fearless in his pursuits to

dress woman in bold and beautiful statement garments.

I am inspired by his vision and legacy to keep my own light shining.

I wish for his soul to be cleansed and healed through his journey

on the other side. May he rest in peace.

January Recap - Pt 3. The Moon and Stars Jewelry Ensemble Creation for Studio 34!

Below are the inspiring images and creation of my custom

Moon & Stars Cuff Bracelet and Earrings that I wore for Studio 34.

It took 8 hours from final sketch to finished product.

It's always a magical feeling to see the vision in my mind

become reality shortly after!

All the grit is worth the beauty that follows.

Below are several images that demonstrate just that.

This image of young Whitney Houston inspired

me to design a jewelry collection with stars.

After viewing this Iconic Album cover of Donna Summer

I had to incorporate the Crescent Moon in the cuff design.

Here's some of the grit I mentioned earlier.

I pasted a copy of the original sketch to the brass,

pierced small holes with HS Twist Drills No. 69,

then hand sawed out the design with a 1/0 blade.

After I filed and sanded down the edges a quick

brush with the buffer is done to smooth out nicks.

The cuff has been annealed, hammered

and now ready for the final polish.

Walla...the finished products in all its glory!

I adore designing cut outs that display the

relationship between metal and skin.

I don't have any tattoos. The idea of one is intriguing yet

the fact that I can change the design by putting

on a different cuff, ring or necklace excites me more.

The earrings were inspired by the cartoon Jem from

the early 80's. I added a shooting star element for more sizzle.

Although January 3rd was my 34th Birthday, I decided to host

a spectacular party on January 23rd 2010 called Studio 34.

I've always been intrigued by disco music and the fashion of Studio 54.

I knew it would be fun times to invite guests to dress inspired by

the fashion times between 1977-1986.

One word FABULOUS!!!

I actually found this image after Deka designed the flyer.

My friend Val G. surprised me with tickets for my 34th Birthday

to see day two of the Alice Smith residency @ Joe's Pub.

January was my birthday month so I enjoyed taking in as

many events as possible to celebrate all of us Capricorns.

Alice Smith and I go way back. I've known her

for over 10 years. She is a wonderful friend and client.

Her first album titled, For Lovers, Dreamers & Me,

was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008.

The Holidays in Paradise..St.Lucia to be exact!

Happy Holidays!

I was so fortunate to spend a majority of my

Dec. 09 Holiday season in Paradise...St.Lucia to be exact.

Its a beautiful Island in the Southeast Caribbean.

St. Lucia is full of lush rain forests, and crystal clear Waters.

The people are full of life and hospitality.

The food is fresh, colorful and mouth watering!

I took over 400 shots of the Island.

The views are so breath taking that a camera

doesn't do it justice. You must see it for yourself.

Below is just a taste of what I captured.

I look forward to my next trip for carnival 2010.

Fast Trac Growth Venture Course Complete!

The Soul Train Awards are back!

The ceremony was held at the

Georgia World Congress Center on

November 3, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia.

This years female tribute went to Chaka Khan,

for her life time of outstanding achievement in music.

The powerhouse vocal crew of Ledisi,

Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, and Fantasia

accompanied the legendary soul singer,

Chaka Khan on stage for a medley of her greatest hits.

I was pleased to see Erykah Badu rocking her

new Khepera Cuffs I custom designed and

shipped to her back in September 09.

The Wiz if definitely on my top 10 list of flicks.

I finally purchased it on i-tunes early October.

I was especially inspired to dress as Michael Jackson's

character of Scarecrow in The Wiz movie for Halloween 09.

The inspiration spread to my friends...we had the whole cast ready to

ease on down the roads of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

A blast was had by all..and yes we happened to meet the Wizard!

New work...Custom Cuffs for E. Badu.

Erykah Badu has been one of my top clients for 10 years.

She and I are both intrigued by spiritual teachings

and symbols of enlightenment.

Below are images of the Khepera Cuff bracelets

I recently crafted for her by hand. Also known as Scarab,

large dung beetles from the eastern Mediterranean

and regarded as sacred in Ancient Khamit/Egypt.

Khepera is the manifestation of the rising sun,

rolling the sun along the sky.

Khepera also has the attributes of

self generation, self renewal and to become.

Cuffs are made of Sterling Silver with a

high polish finish.

I design a pattern to fit her wrists perfectly before

cutting the final pieces out of metal.

The Fashion Institute of Technology Museum curated a

remarkable showcase of Isabel Toledo's fashion designs

from the years 1985 -2009. Even Michelle Obama's

Inauguration dress was on view. Suspended from the ceilings

surrounding Isabel's garments was Ruben Toledo's

Illustrations documenting each garment displayed.

I would like to give a special thanks to Michaela Angela Davis,

long time friends of the Toledo's for hosting the private

walk through and talk with the first couple of fashion.

Hello lovelies I'm back to share my two weeks of adventure.

First up was my Fashion Night Out experience at

Barneys New York with fashions first couple,

(Fashion Designer) Isabel and Ruben Toledo (Artist/Illustrator).

The Toledo's have pioneered the fashion business for over 25 years.

Isabel's claim to main stream fame came when Michelle Obama

wore the Toledo's lemon grass silk ensemble to

President Barack Obama's Inauguration day.

You may have seen Ruben's whimsical artwork in the pages of

Vogue Magazine and Nina Garcia's; The Black Book of Style,

The One hundred and Style Strategy.

Below is a new custom piece I completed

on Aug 21st for my new client Ewah's wedding.

She lost her mother at the age of 7.

Ewah wanted to wear something with her

mother's picture on it. I suggested we do a silver

pendant bezel with crystal glass set over

the picture of her late mother, Claudine Rosette.

(How super sweet is that name though, right!)

Ewah and I were both elated by the final results!

Aug 21-23 was my 15 year high school reunion extravaganza.

It was a pleasure to have the weekend off to party with old

friends and eat unlimited amounts of my favorite fruit!

It's always a pleasure to have loyal clients.

I speak of one in particular and her name is Raquel Cepeda.

She is not only a brilliant author, film maker, journalist, blogger,

mother and style maven...she is one of my biggest supporters

and a dear friend. I had the pleasure of running in to her

at the Big Daddy Kane concert in Prospect Park on August 8th.

She had just arrived back from a business/vacation in one

of her favorite places in the world...Paris, France.

Of course she was wearing the classic LWest custom

silver feather that she's been rocking for over 7 years...

MGS is a television pilot airing in September 2009

is an extraordinary fashion stylist for editorial and film.

She is currently expanding her repertoire

in interior and product design at UCLA.

If you didn't already know...before the Tasha West Jewelry brand began,

I have been designing for the past 10 plus under Lorraine West.

I signed all of my pieces with a chic LWest cursive signature.

Over the past few weeks I took some time to attend events

and reconnect with several old friends and clients.

At almost every event I attended, there was someone

wearing classic LWest or New Tasha West Jewelry.

My loyal customer base has inspired me to resurrect and update

a few classic pieces to mix and mingle with

the new Tasha West collection for Fall 09/Winter 10.
